About Me
I'm Stephen Gomez-Peck, a New York-based musician and current Ph.D. student in Music Theory and Analysis at The Graduate Center, CUNY and a Graduate Teaching Fellow in music at Queens College, CUNY. This site is a platform for me to publish my ideas about a number of musical topics and repertoires in a semi-formal setting and also share my progress in my passion outside of music: competitive distance running.
I've been playing trumpet for about fifteen years (since the fourth grade) and have also gained basic competency in piano performance and more advanced pedagogical keyboard skills since I started college in 2012. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Ithaca College's Whalen School of Music ('16) and a Master's of Music degree in Music Theory from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music ('18). I received a New York State initial teaching license for K–12 music in 2016. I've performed in musical theater pits and churches in central upstate New York and Cape Cod Massachusetts where I'm originally from. In addition, I currently work with a small studio of students ranging in age from early high school to adults, providing tutoring in a wide variety of music theory and aural skills topics and instruction in both classical and jazz trumpet performance.
I'm also an active competitive runner; I started running my senior year of high school and continued racing cross country and track and field throughout my undergraduate years. Since then, I ran with the run club at Indiana University and am currently a sponsored athlete training with New Balance's Central Park Track Club. Sometimes I'm not sure which is my primary lifelong love: music or running.
For a detailed account of my scholarly, pedagogical, and performance experience and ongoing activities recent as of December 22nd, 2019, see below or download it as a PDF here: Stephen Gomez-Peck C.V.
